Welp, sounds like Iran hired Russians to guard their airspace.

Well I sup pose “loss of flight control due to having chunks of the aircraft blown off” could be described as a technical problem...

I’m well aware of the Iranian flight we admitted to shooting down, issued an apology for, and paid reparations over.
Little different from the downing of Malaysian Airlines Flight 17.

The US has never apologized for that, though we did agree to settlement (in which we did not admit fault).

When Trump explained the significance of the 52 targets he would hit, Iran brought up Flight 655. I think the implication was that the same thing might happen to an American airliner. The FAA has already issued NOTAMs restricting flights over the Persian Gulf, Gulf of Oman, Teheran, and parts of Iraq.

A student of mine was supposed to be on his way to Israel today. That’s definitely on my mind.

It could be just a tragic coincidence. Latest report I got was that it crashed “shortly after takeoff.”
How’s your Boeing stock doing?

I don’t own it.
According to FlightAware, it disappeared just 2 minutes after takeoff at 7400'.

Just yesterday, Warren Buffet announced that he was going to buy Boeing stock. That helped. Now this. I wonder if he’s going to sell....

Politics aside, Reagan straight up apologized to Iran days after it happened, and immediately called for reparations. As I tell my students, always follow the links on wikipedia sources.
“ Reagan, speaking to reporters as he boarded a helicopter for a visit to ailing Salvadoran President Jose Napoleon Duarte at Walter Reed Army Medical Center yesterday afternoon, replied “Yes” when asked if he considered his message to Tehran an apology.”

If someone calls their non-apology an apology, that does not actually make it an apology.

That’s some Trump-level double-speak on your part.

First visit to Israel, doubt he changed plans unless the flight was cancelled.

Expressing deep regret for the loss of life is not an apology. It seems pretty clear to me that that’s a distinction. And I don’t see any double-speak there.

I’m supposed to be a plane to the US on Saturday. To be honest I’m starting to wonder about the wisdom of that .

In the same way that a connecting rod exiting the block through the alternator could be described as an electrical failure, yes .
